Describing separation from worldly people after becoming Sriranganatha's devotee.
(AzhwAr is totally dejected about the samsAra. He wants to eschew their sambandha.)
ayyanE arangA enru azhaikkinrEn maiyal koNDu ozhindEn entan mAlukkE || One ||
satsanga is the first step towards reaching God. The sanga makes or mars you. The association of people totally dedicated to the worldly matters is to be avoided. i call out the names of Sree ranganAtha to save me from such people. He has love towards me; i am sure He will protect me. i love Him and Him only.

AliyA azhaiyA arangA enru mAl ezhundu ozhindEn entan mAlukkE || Two ||
The worldly people become dAsAs to women. With such people i don’t like to have any connection. i loudly shout Oh! ranga! He hears me and saves me for, He is my rakShaka. i love Him because He loves me. Our love towards each other is ‘love for love sake’ whereas the love for women is for the sake of something else (not pure).

Aram mArvan arangA anandan nal nAraNan narahAndakan pittanE || Three ||
The people of this earth run after women being hit by the arrows of manmatha. Oh! ranganAtha! i run after You who wear the pearl garland and has infinite swaroopa and swaBAva. The passion for women will push them to hell; whereas passion for BagavAn will prevent the dAsAs from going to hell. He saves them at all costs. Hence i am the dAsa of BagavAn.

aNDavANan arangan van pEi mulai uNDavAyan tan unmattan kANminE || Four ||
A Sree vaiSNava will run enquiring ‘Where is Sree ranganAtha?’ ‘Where is rAmAyaNa katha?’ ‘Where is the temple?’ ‘Where is the BAgavata?’ But ordinary samsAris will run here and there asking ‘where do they give food?’ ‘Where do they do vastradAna?’ AzhwAr says i belong to the first category; i have nothing to do with the latter. i shall meditate on Him who kills the wicked to protect the good.

AdiyAyan arangan andAmarai pEdai mA maNavALan tan pittanE || Five ||
There are people who choose the wrong path when there are right paths too. What is the wrong path? - to worship lower gods and goddess; to want aiSwarya etc., as puruSArta instead of mOkSha. The right path is – to worship Lord nArAyaNa alone; to do kainkarya to Him; to wish mOkSha PuruSArtha etc. With the former i don’t have any association. i am simply mad about Sree ranganAtha.

i don’t want any connections with those who are anya prayOjanAs i.e., who worship Him to gain some worldly pleasure. One should have aversion to samsAra and liking to kainkarya. Always nityasooris enjoy BagavAn in paramapada. He, out of compassion has come down to Sree rangam for the people like me to worship. AzhwAr thinks of His soulaBya and says i am totally mad about Him.

Some people asked AzhwAr – ‘how come you don’t come to us?’ AzhwAr says – ‘it is not my wish; it is the wish of Sree ranganAtha. When somebody told me ‘you go with that man who is not a vaiSNava; if you do that i shall give you all kinds of wealth’ i considered that as very negligent. i called ‘ranganAtha! ranganAtha! That is what BagavAn made me do. He is SengaNmAl. With His kaTAkSha my mind turned towards Him’.

AyanE arangA enru azhaikkinrEn pEyanAi ozhindEn embirAnukkE || Eight||
All the people call me crazy because i am different from them. But i call them crazy fellow since they are different from me and indifferent to BagavAn. It is said ‘one who wears a loin cloth in a city where all are nude is called insane’. Similarly i am a lonely man in my own experience. i don’t care. If you ask me how and why about this i don’t bother to discuss. What is the use? Instead of vain discussions i can chant His names.

The King of chEranADu kulaSEKara AzhwAr is mad about BagavAn. His pASurAs are full of advice to samsAris. Those who read and meditate on them will certainly have Bagavat anuBava without any obstacles.
